A brooch made by the post-Impressionist painter, Paul Gauguin, for his wife, Mette, is currently on view at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen. Created using a piece of scrap metal, a glass watch-dial case, and a lock of hair, the object is considered to be one of the first ready-mades. The sentimental piece is believed to have been created in the early 1870s.
