Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels sale, held Tuesday, April 19, in New York, garnered $29.9 million. The auction was led by a cushion brilliant-cut fancy purple/pink diamond ring weighing 12.45 carats, which netted $4.6 million. A 9.54-carat blue diamond ring once owned by Shirley Temple was also up for grabs, but failed to find a buyer. The cushion-cut stone, which was gifted to the child star by her father in 1940, was expected to fetch $25-$35 million.
