The Muscarelle Museum of Art is going for baroque with its latest exhibit.

After a series of hugely successful renaissance-themed exhibits, the museum has embarked on a mission to showcase another side of Italy’s rich artistic legacy. "Twilight of a Golden Age: Florentine Painting after the Renaissance" has opened, offering visitors to the museum a chance to see the work of the great Italian painters who followed the Renaissance during the baroque period.

The more than 20 paintings and sculptures contained in the exhibit are on display courtesy Sir Mark Fehrs Haukohl, a private art collector who circulates his gallery of baroque Italian paintings and sculptures through museums in the U.S.

Gabriele Finaldi has been appointed the new head of the National Gallery, replacing Nicholas Penny who announced his retirement last year.

The 49-year-old is currently deputy director for collections and research at the Prado museum in Madrid.

Finaldi was a curator at the National from 1992 to 2002, where he was responsible for the later paintings in the Italian and Spanish collections.

He said he was "deeply honored" to take on the directorship.

The Domaine de Chantilly in France is honoring the prized collections of the Condé Museum with a special exhibition of 14th and 15th century Italian paintings. The exhibit, “Fra Angelico, Botticelli…Rediscovered Masterpieces” is on view through January 4, 2015. One of the highlights of the exhibition is the reunion of five of the six paintings that comprise the Fra Angelico Thebaïde. But, one is still missing…
