In 1915, with the newly innovated film camera, a young Russian-born, French actor named Sacha Guitry captured some of France’s greatest artists and authors. His footage of Auguste Rodin, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and other luminaries in their twilight years appeared in his first cinematic work, a 22-minute silent film called Ceux de Chez Nous (Those of Our Land).

Last week, Open Culture shared the clips of Rodin, Monet, Degas, and Renoir, showing the artists in their studios, homes, and walking out on the Paris streets.

The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Atlanta is bowing a new museum dedicated to fashion, it announced August 27.

The museum, named SCADfash, will open its doors on October 1, and its inaugural exhibition, Oscar de la Renta, will run from October 3 to December 21.

SCADfash will add 10,000 square feet of space — comprising a public gallery space, a fashion conservation lab, and a media library for educational film and digital presentations — to SCAD’s existing 27,000 square feet of academic studio space, serving the institution’s fashion and fashion marketing and management students.

A major exhibition at Vitra Design Museum will for the first time present a comprehensive overview of design at the Bauhaus.

Opening on September 26 in Weil am Rhein, the exhibition The Bauhaus #itsalldesign, sponsored by Hugo Boss, will encompass a variety of rare exhibits from the fields of design, architecture, art, film and photography. Some of the works seen in the exhibition, which comes from the collection of the Vitra Design Museum as well as significant pieces from private collections and exhibitions houses worldwide, will have never been exhibited before.

How did Pablo Picasso celebrate his 80th birthday? Thanks to recent efforts by the Associated Press and British Movietone to make their newsreel archives more accessible to the public, we can now witness snippets of the occasion. The two companies announced a project to upload over one million minutes of digitized film footage to YouTube, comprising over 550,000 videos dating as far back as 1895. There are plenty of art-related clips to explore — watch New Yorkers in 1995 react to Christian Boltanski’s “LOST: New York Projects” in the subway or see Christo and Jeanne-Claude unwrap the Reichstag — but one of the greatest gems is the documentation of Picasso’s birthday.

Part of the “Exhibition on Screen” series, the film “The Impressionists and the Man Who Made Them,” directed and produced by Phil Grabsky, is a behind-the-scenes look at the sole supporter of the Impressionist group during the turn of the 19th century: the Parisian art dealer and connoisseur Paul Durand-Ruel. Produced in conjunction with the traveling show “Inventing Impressionism” — which has already been on view at the Musée d’Orsay and London’s National Gallery, and will open at the Philadelphia Museum of Art on June 18 — the film provides viewers with the opportunity to learn about Durand-Ruel’s career and his role in establishing the pillars of the modern art market.

Though “Dance: Movement, Rhythm, Spectacle” occupies just one large room (arranged to feel like three) at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, it seems to open windows in many directions. Its exhibits range from the 1890s to the 1980s, vividly demonstrating how radically that century brought change to social dance, dance theater and ideas of dance in art. Diversely diverse, the show, which opened this month, offers a panoply of artistic media (photographs, paintings, watercolors, prints, woodcuts, etchings, graphite drawings, lithographs and film), dancers of various races and a huge assortment of dance costumes.

The National Endowment for the Arts is awarding $894,300 in grants to nine Maine organizations for projects that focus on artistic creativity.

The majority of the funding is going to the Maine Arts Commission. The commission is getting $723,300. The rest of the money is going to a range of organizations that support projects in film, folk music, stage production, young artist workshops and other endeavors.

The Andy Warhol Museum announces the public presentation of 10 rarely seen Andy Warhol "Screen Tests" on Times Square's electronic billboards from 11:57 p.m. to midnight each night in May 2015. The screenings are part of the ongoing project "Midnight Moment," a monthly presentation by The Times Square Advertising Coalition (TSAC) and Times Square Arts. Among the "Screen Tests" shown are those of Bob Dylan, Allen Ginsberg, Lou Reed, Harry Smith, and Edie Sedgwick.

Between 1964 and 1966, Warhol created almost 500 of these three-minute film portraits of famous and anonymous visitors to his studio, filming his subjects using a stationary Bolex camera loaded with 100-foot rolls of black and white 16mm film.

Fondazione Prada will open a new permanent exhibition space in Milan on May 9 with a range of planned artistic activities, some of which have been selected to create a bridge with its existing Venetian venue.

Robert Gober and Thomas Demand will create site-specific installations in response to the new building’s architecture, while director Roman Polanski will delve on his cinematographic inspirations with a new documentary and a screening of some of his films. A selection of artworks from the Prada Collection will also be curated around different themes.

From February 7 until May 17, the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts in Taiwan is hosting a retrospective of the works of the avant-garde Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, entitled “A Dream I Dreamed.”

More than 100 art works will be displayed at this exhibition, including paintings, sculptures, installations, and documentary film footage, along with "Infinity Mirrored Room," one of her most popular works.
