Another transformative investment in arts and culture has just hit the finish line in University Circle.

The Cleveland Institute of Art's six-year, $75 million expansion and renovation of its complex at the Uptown development along Euclid Avenue is finished and ready for action.

Kelly Baum, who for past five years has served as the Haskell Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Princeton University Art Museum, will join the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Modern and Contemporary curatorial team.

The hiring comes at an important time, after the museum has announced plans to renovate their Modern wing and that in March of 2016 it will expand into the old Whitney Museum building. The building will be known as the Met Breuer and will focus on Modern and Contemporary exhibitions.

Facing a groundswell of opposition to a proposed renovation that would have eliminated a gated garden to make way for a six-story addition, the museum — long admired for its intimate scale — has decided to abandon those plans and start over from scratch.

“It just became clear to us that it wasn’t going to work,” said a museum official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the board had not yet made the decision final with a vote.

The Dallas Museum of Art announced today the receipt of a $3 million grant from the Eagle Family to fund the renovation of the museum’s north entrance, which faces Klyde Warren Park.

Paired with an additional $1.3 million from the Hamon Charitable Foundation, the plans will transform the area outside of the museum’s Atrium Cafe into a plaza with outdoor seating for the restaurant. In addition, the driveways allowing access to the museum’s underground parking garage will be reconfigured, making room for wider sidewalks and new landscaping that are intended to create improved pedestrian access and flow between the park and the front of the DMA. 

The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam has won the European Museum of the Year award for 2015. 

The European Museum of the Year Awards is organized by the European Museum Forum and the winner was announced in Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday. The museum received the EMYA trophy The Egg which it will keep fore one year.

The Bass Museum of Art on Miami Beach will close Sunday until fall 2016 to increase programming space by 47.5% on its existing footprint with a $7.5 million city grant.

The Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board voted 6-0 Tuesday to approve the partial demolition, renovation and expansion of the two-story structure at 2100 Collins Ave.

David Chipperfield has today unveiled his plans to reconfigure and renovate the Royal Academy of Arts in London, which will include building a bridge between two historic buildings.

Described by the London-based architect as "a series of subtle interventions", the development will include connecting Burlington House, the grand Palladian house used by the Royal Academy since the mid-19th century, and 6 Burlington Gardens, a former University of London building purchased by the art institution in 2001.

Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art, the cultural anchor in the evolving Seaport District since its 2006 opening, is planning a 20,000-square-foot-plus expansion.

The waterfront museum will expand into the adjacent 100 Northern Ave., a 17-story glass office tower under construction by the Fallon Co. on Fan Pier.

The ICA plans to use the additional 23,000 square feet for more gallery space.

Miuccia Prada, whose fashion designs have remained a rare source of Italian pride, has created a new permanent home for her Fondazione Prada that is anything but minimal.

The vast, 19,000 sq. meter venue, which opens to VIPs this weekend and to the public on May 9, is housed in the former industrial complex Largo Isarco. Many of the renovated buildings preserve their original features.
