The Margulies Collection is organizing an Anselm Kiefer exhibition that is due to open next autumn, in time for the 2015 edition of Art Basel in Miami Beach. The show in the Warehouse, the non-profit institution’s space in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District, will feature a monumental installation by the German-born, French-based artist, which he created specially for his major retrospective at London’s Royal Academy of Arts (until 14 December).

Art Basel Miami Beach Kicks Off its 2014 Edition

Now in its thirteenth year, Art Basel Miami Beach is back and bigger than ever. The fair, which opens to the public on Thursday, December 4, at the Miami Beach Convention Center, is complemented by an array of cultural events, including satellite fairs, gallery exhibitions, public installations, and posh parties. In total, about 1,000 exhibitors will flock to sunny Florida to participate in the shows and attendance at Art Basel Miami Beach is expected to reach upward of 75,000 visitors.

Art Basel Miami Beach, the country’s biggest contemporary art fair, will open with an invitation-only Private View on Wednesday, December 3, followed by an exclusive Vernissage early on Thursday. 267 galleries presenting $3 billion worth of art will participate in the show.

Art Basel in Miami Beach has just released details about Survey, its brand new section devoted to “art-historical projects” (read: art that was made a few decades ago). The thirteen projects cover quite a bit of ground, ranging from a group show of female geometric abstractionists to a solo presentation of Chilean political artist Lotty Rosenfeld.

Art Basel’s Annette Schönholzer Steps Down

Marking the end of an era at the powerhouse art-fair organization Art Basel, Annette Schönholzer steps down this month to pursue other projects. As show manager of the first, now legendary, Art Basel Miami Beach in 2002, and later co-director with Marc Spiegler of all three Art Basel fairs worldwide, she oversaw the tremendous growth of the art-fair phenomenon and a far-reaching shake-up of power in the art world.

Her departure follows the surprising move in July by a key official of Art Basel, Magnus Renfrew, who served as director of its Hong Kong fair, to Bonhams auction house.  As Schönholzer had also been involved some months back in the establishment of Art Basel’s presence in China, the dual departures are seen complicating that newly minted expansion.
