Paris Tableau—the Old Master fair that closed two days early this year after the terrorist attacks in the capital on 13 November—will become part of the Biennale des Antiquaires, which will be held annually at the Grand Palais.

The 28th edition of the Biennale—the historic jewelry, art and antiques fair—is scheduled to open next autumn (10-18 September 2016) with Henri Loyrette, the former president of the Louvre, at the helm. 

The Syndicat National des Antiquaires (SNA) -- or the French National Union of Antique Dealers -- announced that it will launch a new fair aimed at young collectors this spring. Paris Beaux-Arts, which will be held at the Carrousel du Louvre, an underground center adjacent to the Musee du Louvre, will complement the SNA’s prestigious Biennale des Antiquaires.

The long-running Biennale des Antiquaires, which is celebrated for its elegant atmosphere, blue chip offerings, and elite guest list, specializes in rare antiques, fine art, jewelry, silver, and porcelain. The SNA intends for Paris Beaux-Arts to be equal to the Biennale in quality and range, but with a stronger emphasis on modern and contemporary art.

On September 11, 2014, the 27th annual Biennale des Antiquaires will open to the public. The prestigious show, which is held at the Grand Palais in Paris, is celebrated for its elegant atmosphere, blue chip offerings, and elite guest list. A VIP preview was held on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, offering select patrons a sneak peek of the show’s treasure-trove of rare antiques, fine art, jewelry, silver, porcelain, and contemporary design.

This year’s Versailles-themed Biennale was designed by the celebrated French interior decorator Jacques Grange. A chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur, Grange recreated the royal gardens of Versailles under the Grand Palais’ iconic glass dome.

Christian Deydier, the former president of the association of antiques dealers in France (Syndicat National des Antiquaires board; SNA), says that a rift among members about the frequency of the Biennale des Antiquaires fair prompted his dismissal from the organisation last week.

The 27th edition of the prestigious biennial, which is organised by the SNA, is due to open at Paris's Grand Palais in the autumn (11-21 September). "There is a power struggle [in the SNA] between two groups: one that wants the biennial to take place annually and another that wants it to stay as a biennial event," Deydier tells The Art Newspaper.

“We’ve always seen the biennale as an event that requires the exception. We can’t present at the biennale what we would present in our boutique, so our entire collection of over 100 unique pieces has been especially created for the event,” explains Pierre Rainero , image and heritage director at Cartier.

Befitting its nickname of ‘jeweler of kings and the king of jewelers,’ the French house will be presenting at the prestigious Biennale des Antiquaires in Paris a “Royal Collection” inspired by spectacularly-sized gemstones.
