The Brooklyn Museum has announced the appointment of Nancy Spector as its deputy director and chief curator. Spector joins the museum after having served for more than 29 years at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. She comes to the Brooklyn Museum as the first senior staff member hired by Anne Pasternak following her recent appointment as the Museum's Shelby White and Leon Levy director.

Olivier Michelon, who has been at the helm of the Musée des Abattoirs—the FRAC institution in the Midi-Pyrenees region—for over three years, will leave his position in Toulouse to become the new chief curator at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris next March.

In a statement released on December 3, the modern and contemporary art museum in Toulouse said that Michelon would still be in charge of its upcoming exhibition dedicated to Antoni Tàpies, which opens on February 12.

Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) photo curator David Little is decamping from Minnesota to Massachusetts where he will become the Director and Chief Curator of the Mead Art Museum at Amherst College starting August 31.

In his seven year tenure at the MIA, Little organized more than 20 exhibitions including “The Sports Show,” a pioneering 2012 examination of the history of sports photography.

Scott Rothkopf has been appointed deputy director of programs at the Whitney Museum of American Art, museum director Adam D. Weinberg announced yesterday.

Rothkopf has been promoted from his post as a curator and associate director of programs. In July, he will become the deputy director for programs, as well as the Nancy and Steve Crown family chief curator.

The Morgan Library & Museum, which has been without a leader since late last summer, looked West to bring back a longtime New Yorker as its new director, choosing Colin B. Bailey, who has served since 2013 as director of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco but was for many years before that the chief curator at the Frick Collection.

Mr. Bailey, a well-regarded Renoir scholar, succeeds William M. Griswold, who left last year to take over the Cleveland Museum of Art. Mr. Bailey comes to the Morgan almost a decade after an expansion, designed by Renzo Piano, enlarged not only the museum’s floor plan but also its ambitions, moving it more actively into contemporary art, collaborations with other institutions and high-end acquisitions.

Shannon Stratton has been named chief curator at New York’s Museum of Arts and Design (MAD). Stratton will assume the new role in June, succeeding MAD’s retiring chief curator, Lowery Stokes Sims. “Shannon brings a bold curatorial vision to MAD, combining energetic new thinking with leadership skills honed over twelve years as the founder of a non-profit art space,” Chairman Lewis Kruger said in a statement, referring to Stratton’s work as the executive director of Threewalls, a contemporary art organization in Chicago.

Bud and Suzanne Selig, who have been generous contributors to the Milwaukee Art Museum, will donate $2.5 million to create and support a chief curator position at the Phoenix Art Museum.

Suzanne Selig serves on the Phoenix Museum Board of Trustees, allowing her to extend her artistic support beyond Milwaukee and the Calatrava addition to the museum. The Seligs have homes in Milwaukee and Arizona.

Amsterdam's Stedelijk Museum has appointed Bart van der Heide as its new chief curator. He takes up his new post February 1, replacing Nicole Delissen.

It's a bit of a homecoming, as van der Heide was once assistant curator at the museum. He later went on to serve as curator at Cubitt Gallery in London and at Witte de With in Rotterdam. Most recently, he was director of the Kunstverein Munich. Among the artists featured in his past shows are Trisha Baga, Bernadette Corporation, Keren Cytter, Harun Farocki, Ian Kiaer, Tobias Madison, Richard Tuttle, Tris Vonna-Michell, Rebecca Warren, Cathy Wilkes, and Haegue Yang.

The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden has appointed Stephane Aquin from the Montreal Museum of Fine Art as its new chief curator.

Museum director Melissa Chiu announced the appointment Tuesday. Aquin is the second major hire for Chiu, who became director in September. She previously hired Gianni Jetzer as Curator-at-Large.

Aquin will lead a staff of six curators responsible for planning the exhibitions at the Smithsonian museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art. Aquin succeeds Kerry Brougher, who  served as the museum’s interim director before leaving in May to become director of the new Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Museum in Los Angeles.

Jill Medvedow, Ellen Matilda Poss Director of the Institute of Contemporary  Art/Boston (ICA), announced today the appointment of Eva Respini as Barbara Lee Chief Curator. Respini is currently Curator in the Department of Photography at The Museum of Modern Art, where she organized the critically acclaimed retrospectives Cindy Sherman and Robert Heinecken as well as exhibitions with artists Klara Liden, Anne Collier, Leslie Hewitt, and Akram Zaatari. She will assume her new position at the ICA in March 2015.

“Eva Respini brings a combination of scholarship and a 21st-century sensibility to image-making, technology, and the role of the museum of the future,” says Medvedow. “She offers a rich understanding of contemporary art and is a creative and intelligent leader in her field. We look forward to the contributions that she will bring to the museum.”
