Madrid's Museo Reina Sofía bought 26 artworks reaching a combined worth of €348,884 at ARCO art fair last week. The total budget spent marks an increase of €144, 259 compared to last year's, when, according to "El Imparcial," the acquisition committee of the museum acquired works for only €204,625 at the fair.

The increase in the museum's budget crowns a successful edition of Spain's top contemporary art fair.

The Reina Sofía will assume the technical direction, research management, preservation and dissemination of the archive for a period of ten years, with the option to fully acquire the collection down the road.

Soledad Lorenzo, one of Spain’s most important gallerists, has announced that she will donate her vast personal art collection to the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid. Featuring 385 artworks, the donation is composed in its majority of pieces from artists she exhibited in her gallery, including Antoni Tàpies, Miquel Barceló, Eduardo Chillida, Tony Oursler, George Condo, Julian Schnabel, Luis Gordillo, and Juan Uslé.

Museo Reina Sofía issued a press release stating that Lorenzo’s gift is of an unprecedented scale in Spain.
