The London-based sculptor Anish Kapoor has been given a one-man show at the Château de Versailles in France. According to “The New York Times,” the show will open in June 2015 and run through October 2015.

Versailles’ former director, Jean-Jacques Aillagon, launched the museum’s contemporary art program in 2008. In addition to Kapoor, Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami, and Joana Vasconcelos have been given solo shows at Versailles. According to the museum’s website, “These encounters, sometimes emphasizing contrast and synthesis, show Versailles as a living site always open to creativity.”

American artist Jeff Koons opened his first major solo exhibition in Asia at Gagosian Hong Kong on November 6.

Deftly interposed between his major career retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York earlier this summer and another large-scale exhibition at the Pompidou Center scheduled to open later this month, “Jeff Koons: Hulk Elvis” showcases precision-machined bronze sculptures from his ongoing series that are inspired by inflatable figures of the popular comic book character, transplanted into a three-dimensional format.

The Hammer Museum announced on Wednesday exhibition plans for winter and spring that include the first L.A. solo show for Mexican artist Pedro Reyes and the first American show for the London-based Heatherwick architecture studio.

Another first: "Charles Gaines: Gridwork 1974-1989," which comes to the Hammer from the Studio Museum in Harlem, and opens Feb. 7. It represents the first comprehensive survey of the prominent conceptual artist's work while he lived and taught in Fresno, before he came to Los Angeles.

A group of leading artists, artist estates, collectors, and dealer has donated 25 works of art to benefit the Whitney Museum of American Art’s new Renzo Piano-designed building in downtown Manhattan. The works, which are said to be worth upward of $8 million, will be put up for auction at Sotheby’s New York from May 14-15, 2013.

All of the artists involved in the multifaceted gift have strong ties to the Whitney and are represented in the museum’s stellar permanent collection. The most valuable work that will be up for auction in May is Jasper Johns’ (b. 1930) oil on canvas painting Untitled (2012), which is estimated to sell for $1.5 million to $2 million. Johns has had five solo shows at the Whitney and has participated in over 37 group exhibitions; the donation came directly from the artist. Other highlights from the sale include a Jeff Koons (b. 1955) silkscreen on stainless steel, a Cy Twombly (1928-2011) work on paper, a recent nude by John Currin (b. 1962), and other works by John Baldessari (b. 1931), Andy Warhol (1928-1987), and Ed Ruscha (b. 1937).    

All of the profits from the sale will directly benefit the Whitney’s new building, which is expected to open in the High Line District in 2015.

London’s Tate Modern announced that 5.3 million patrons visited the museum in 2012, a record for the institution. In fact, the number of visitors was up a considerable 9.5 percent from the previous year.

An exhibition devoted to the work of contemporary artist Damien Hirst (b. 1965), which ran from April 4 to September 9, 2012, contributed significantly to the Tate’s record attendance. The show, which featured some of the controversial artist’s best-known works, attracted 463,000 visitors making it the most popular solo show ever organized by the museum. The Tate’s recently opened performance space, The Tanks, also contributed to the increase in patrons. The Tanks, which opened in July, is a permanent space for not only performance, but installations and video art as well.

Tate Modern, which opened in 2000, is Britain’s national museum for modern and contemporary art. Located along the Thames River in the former Bankside Power Station, the museum expects another stellar year. Exhibitions planned for 2013 include a major retrospective of the pop artist Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997) and a show devoted to Swiss-born painter Paul Klee (1879-1940).
