Mario Buccellati was the first jeweler to introduce the technique of texture-engraving, such as rigato (parallel lines cut onto the surface of metal to obtain a sheen effect), ornato (based on the forms of animals, leaves, flowers), and telato (fine cross-hatched lines, imitating a fabric surface), which were used to make the metal look and feel as soft as silk, damask, tulle, lace, or linen.

Buccellati masterpieces created over the last 100 years are now on show at the Pitti Palace in Florence, in "The Treasures of the Buccellati Foundation" exhibition showcasing the creations of both the house’s founder and his son, Gianmaria Buccellati, including rings that resemble turbans, butterfly and panda brooches, and a “tulle” tiara studded with brilliant and rose-cut diamonds.

Scottish officials announced on Monday that an amateur metal-detector scavenger literally struck gold, finding a large Viking treasure hoard dating to the 9th and 10th century, "Art Daily" has reported.

The haul was discovered in Dumfriesshire, southwest Scotland and included over 100 unique artifacts including jewelry such as silver ingots, brooches, armbands, and gold objects of Irish origin. A silver Christian cross and a silver Carolingian pot from Germany was also found.

U.S. Antique Shows announced that they will be adding another event to their roster this spring. The L.A. Antique Jewelry & Watch Show, which will take place March 22-24, 2013, will bring together over 100 preeminent antique jewelry dealers from across the country.

The show, which will be held at the Hyatt Regency Century City, will offer patrons a variety of rare and unique jewelry and watches by notable brands such as Cartier, Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Van Cleef & Arpels. Cameos, rings, decorative necklaces, brooches, gemstones, and pendants spanning from the Renaissance to the Art Deco era will also be featured. Highlights from the upcoming show include a 12-carat internally flawless fancy yellow ring from Raymond Lee Jewelers, rare Art Deco diamond bracelets and jewelry from Jerome Heidenreich Inc., and an Art Deco platinum and diamond Tiffany & Co. pendant from J.S. Fearnley.
