The Sculpture Objects Functional Art and Design Fair (also known as SOFA) opens on Thursday, November 5, at Festival Hall at Chicago’s historic Navy Pier. The show, which has run continuously since 1994, is celebrated for its sharp focus on three-dimensional works that blur the boundaries between fine art, decorative art and design. The International Fine Art & Antiques Show is shaking things up for its 27th iteration. Held at the distinguished Park Avenue Armory from October 23–29, 2015, the fair will debut a new name and logo as well as an updated marketing aesthetic. Now simply called The International Show, the fair, which has historically featured fine art and antiques, will also include twentieth century and contemporary art and design. Walking into the dramatic first-floor gallery of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, visitors are confronted with the towering bis poles collected by Michael Rockefeller on his final expedition to New Guinea. Rockefeller disappeared on that trip in 1961 at the age of 23, reported drowned at sea under mysterious circumstances that have led to speculation that he may have been eaten by cannibals.

The intricately carved poles are on display in the wing of the Met that bears his name. The Michael C. Rockefeller Wing houses a collection of non-Western art obtained by Rockefeller’s father, New York governor, multimillionaire and subsequent Vice President Nelson Rockefeller.

Maya Angelou, the pioneering African American author and poet, also had quite the art collection, featuring a number of prominent African American artists. On September 15, Swann Galleries' African-American fine art department will offer her collection at the sale "The Art Collection of Maya Angelou."

Of the over 500 artworks the author owned when she died in May of 2014, 43 pieces will be available in the Swann sale, which will also run on eBay's live auction platform.
