When the doors of the prestigious Winter Antiques Show opened at the Park Avenue Armory on January 23, 2015, David A. Schorsch and Eileen M. On Friday, January 23, 2015, collectors, first-time buyers, and a variety of art, antique, and design professionals, including dealers, interior designers, and curators, will gather at New York City’s historic Park Avenue Armory for the prestigious Winter Antiques Show. Now in its 61st year, the distinguished event will welcome seventy-three exhibitors offering fine and decorative arts from antiquity through the 1960s, with one-third of the show’s participants specializing in Americana and the rest featuring European, English, and Asian objects. The unparalleled quality of the works exhibited at the Winter Antiques Show has helped establish the event as the most esteemed antiques show in the country.

The 35th annual AIPAD Photography Show in New York is planned for April 16–19 at the Park Avenue Armory. This year's iteration will feature photography from 89 galleries around the world, as well as a special selection of short films presented by ART21 curator Wesley Miller. Called "New York Close Up," the films by Rashid Johnson, Liz Magic Lase, Martha Colburn, Daniel Gordon, and others will be on view for the duration of the fair.

AIPAD is the longest-running photography fair in the world, presenting a diverse range of works from portraits and self-portraits (a portrait of Georgia O'Keeffe by Alfred Stieglitz will on view at Edwynn Houk Gallery) to landscapes and fashion photography (Louis Faurer's 1962 works for "Harper's Bazaar" will be available at Deborah Bell Photographs).

The Park Avenue Armory has announced an ambitious lineup for the 2015 season including mammoth installations, artist commissions, and cross-disciplinary collaborations from artists including Philippe Parreno, Olafur Eliasson, Laurie Anderson and Marina Abramovic.

The season launches in March with FLEXN, a commission co-directed by Reggie "Regg Roc" Gray and director Peter Sellars focused on street dance. It will be followed by a work from Philippe Parreno that promises to "radically morph the exhbition tradition by enveloping the viewer and the Armory's building into the artwork itself," according to a release from the Armory.

The Salon Art + Design Fair, the sister fair of the esteemed Paris Biennale, opened to the public on Friday, November 14, at the Park Avenue Armory in New York. Produced in collaboration with France’s Syndicat National des Antiquaires, the Salon hosted a collector’s preview for VIP guests on the evening of November 13.

Launched in 2012 by Sanford L. Smith + Associates, the Salon welcomes over fifty leading galleries offering fine and decorative arts and design from 1890 to the present.

YBA Douglas Gordon is set to collaborate with pianist Hélène Grimaud on a large-scale commissioned piece that will debut in the Park Avenue Armory’s 55,000-square-foot drill hall on December 10 and run through January 4. A “monumental installation and performance piece” titled “tears become … streams become … ,” the piece is inspired by water and brings a giant pool of the stuff into the armory.  Grimaud is set to activate the space with nighttime performances of water-inspired works by composers including Debussy, Ravel, and Liszt from December 9 through 21, while a player piano will play during the day.

The Salon: Art + Design, which premiered in 2012, is taking place at the famed Park Avenue Armory in New York City through November 18. The show opened with a festive cocktail party hosted by Margaret Russell, editor-in-chief of Architectural Digest, on November 14.

The fair welcomes 53 international dealers including Bernard Goldberg Fine Arts (New York), Galerie Downtown Francois Laffanour (Paris) and Adrian Sassoon (London). Offerings include modern art masterpieces by such luminaries as Gerhard Richter, Edward Hopper, Egon Schiele and Henry Moore, as well as 18th century French furniture and an assortment of Chinese decorative art and pre-Columbian antiquities. Organized by legendary fair producer Sanford Smith + Associates in collaboration with Paris’ Syndicat National des Antiquaires, The Salon offers a wide range of historic and contemporary works to cater to a variety of collectors.

The prestigious Winter Antiques Show, which is in its 60^th year, will present a loan exhibition honoring the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts. Fresh Take, Making Connections to the Peabody Essex Museum will present over 50 paintings, sculptures, textiles and decorative objects from the Peabody Essex, one of the country’s oldest and most progressive museums. The exhibition will be on view during the entire run of the Winter Antiques Show, which will take place from January 24, 2014 to February 2, 2014 at the Park Avenue Armory in New York City.

Highlights from Fresh Take, Making Connections to the Peabody Essex Museum include an 18^th century inlaid ivory chair from India, a mahogany dressing chest by Thomas Seymour (circa 1810) and a 19^th century portrait of the author Nathaniel Hawthorne by Charles Osgood. Jeff Daly, formerly a senior design advisor to the director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, will design the exhibition.  

Fresh Take will coincide with the Peabody Essex Museum’s 215^th anniversary. The institution recently embarked on a $650 million campaign and expansion that will place the museum among the top 10 art institutions in the country in terms of gallery space and total endowment.  

Artvest Partners, which is helmed by Michael Plummer and Jeff Rabin, Christie’s former Chief Operating Officer of Financial Services and Vice President of Financial Services, respectively, will transform The Spring Show NYC for its 2014 iteration. The goal of the fair’s redesign is to better serve the global collector community that gathers in New York each year to attend the various important spring auctions. Launched in 2011 by the Art & Antique Dealers League of America and produced by The Art Fair Company, the Spring Show NYC presents art and design from antiquity to the avant-garde.

Artvest will revamp the Spring Show NYC’s look and feel as well as bring new dealers on board for the show. Clinton Howell, President of the Art & Antique Dealers League, said, “After fielding requests from leading dealers from the around the globe who were looking for a suitable venue to exhibit their best works in New York during the Impressionist & Modern auction week, we realized that we needed to reconfigure the Spring Show NYC to accommodate this demand.”

The Spring Show NYC will take place at the Park Avenue Armory from April 30, 2014 to May 4, 2014.

The 2013 Spring Show NYC opened to the public on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the Park Avenue Armory in Manhattan. Organized by the Art and Antique Dealers League of America, this is the third edition of the Spring Show NYC, which features furniture, paintings, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, glass, decorative arts, and much more.

This year’s show includes over 60 international galleries. Highlights from the fair include Ammi Phillips’ (1788-1865) Portrait of a Child from Jeffrey Tillou Antiques, French landscape painter Eugene Louis Boudin’s (1824-1898) Village aux Environs de Dunkerque from Rehs Galleries, and a set of eight George II carved mahogany dining chairs from Clinton Howell Antiques.

The Spring Show NYC will be ongoing at the Armory through May 5, 2013. Tonight, the fair will host Arts Night Out, allowing 30 young patron groups from New York ‘s top cultural institutions to visit the show. Proceeds from the event will benefit the ASPCA.
