The Park Avenue Armory has announced an ambitious lineup for the 2015 season including mammoth installations, artist commissions, and cross-disciplinary collaborations from artists including Philippe Parreno, Olafur Eliasson, Laurie Anderson and Marina Abramovic.

The season launches in March with FLEXN, a commission co-directed by Reggie "Regg Roc" Gray and director Peter Sellars focused on street dance. It will be followed by a work from Philippe Parreno that promises to "radically morph the exhbition tradition by enveloping the viewer and the Armory's building into the artwork itself," according to a release from the Armory.

When Marina Abramović called the Serpentine Gallery’s co-director Hans Ulrich Obrist to explain the idea for her forthcoming London performance, she said: “This is what I want to do: nothing … there’s nothing. There’s no work, just me, and the public is my live material, and that’s the most radical, the most pure I can do.”

Entitled 512 Hours, the piece will involve the veteran performance artist being present in the gallery six days a week from 10am to 6pm for the duration of the exhibition. Nothing else will be exhibited, although the performance will also feature props and furniture.

The Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles isn’t in a party mood this year.

The downtown institution, rocked by the departures of board members, won’t hold a gala in 2012, according to an e-mail from the museum. Past events have included performances by Lady Gaga, Beck and Deborah Harry.

The annual soiree, usually held in November, has been the museum’s largest annual fundraiser, tax filings show. The 2011 gala, which raised $2.5 million, was directed by performance artist Marina Abramovic and featured live nude models rotating on tables, while guests including Pamela Anderson, Kirsten Dunst and Will Ferrell dined in white lab coats.

“This year’s MOCA gala is scheduled for the spring,” according to the e-mail from the museum. “Date to be announced shortly.”

This campaign season, the talk across America is about tightened belts and reduced expectations. The art world hasn’t heard it. New York’s biggest galleries are about to get bigger, and some smaller players are expanding as well.

We’re doing well as a gallery, and the ambitious new space reflects that,” says Maureen Bray, a director of the Sean Kelly Gallery. She’s barely audible above construction being done on an arena-size space due to open late in October. The gallery is moving up from 6,500 square feet in the neighborhood called Chelsea, home of the world’s biggest art souk, to almost four times that floor space farther uptown.
