Art Basel sent around a press release this morning to announce their new partnership with Kickstarter, the culture crowdfunding site:

The Art Basel Crowdfunding Initiative will aim to catalyze international support for non-profit visual arts organizations worldwide by promoting outstanding projects to Art Basel’s extensive global audience.

With this new initiative, Art Basel will support the non-profit sector of the artworld, at a time when public funding for the arts has been dwindling. Designed specifically for non-profit arts organizations, the Art Basel Crowdfunding Initiative will offer visibility and support for a wide variety of artistic projects, including non-profit exhibitions, public installations, films, artist books, education programs, artist residencies, talks, conservation and archiving, and other innovative art projects.

Olafur Eliasson has relaunched his website with an innovative web-based survey of his artwork. Your uncertain archive presents artworks, exhibitions, works in public space, pavilions, models, books, talks, and research by Olafur Eliasson and his studio. The site encourages chance encounters with its content, using an extensive system of tags so that you can discover the common threads running through everything. The connections mode is used to highlight associations, or simply drift through a cloud of archival objects.

Olafur Eliasson says: “What I’m interested in with my work at the Louisiana isn’t really that you experience an object or an artwork. I am interested in how you connect this landscape to the rest of the world and ultimately, how you experience yourself within it."

Thomas P. Campbell, Director and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, announced that Adrienne Arsht has pledged $1 million in support of the Met Museum Presents series of performances and talk, now in its second season. The grant will fund the next three seasons of the series, in 2014-2015, 2015-2016, and 2016-2017.

“For years, Adrienne Arsht has been a philanthropic force in the performing arts,” said Mr. Campbell, “and her generous grant to the Metropolitan Museum signals her confidence in the bold direction that our Concerts & Lectures General Manager Limor Tomer has embraced over the past two years.
