Maurice Tuchman, the first full-time curator of modern art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, has donated his papers to the Getty Research Institute, the GRI is expected to announce Thursday.
Tuchman held the LACMA position from 1964 to 1994 and was responsible for mounting pioneering shows and projects, including the lauded Art and Technology program, which championed emerging light and space artists such as Robert Irwin and James Turrell and paired artists with Southern California technology companies from 1966 to 1971.

Solo presentations of emerging or young artists will be in the "Statements" sector, where all 16 galleries are completely new to the Swiss fair.
When Ruth Horwich, a fixture in Chicago’s art community for over fifty-five years, passed away in July 2014, she left behind an extraordinarily diverse and deeply personal art collection. Horwich and her husband, Leonard, began collecting art in the late 1950s, often focusing on unknown and emerging artists. The couple amassed a fascinating collection that included works by Chicago Imagists, European Surrealists, and self-taught and folk artists. They also acquired many notable pieces by Robert Matta, Alexander Calder, and Jean Dubuffet.
In addition to growing her collection, Horwich was dedicated to providing key support to many Chicago art institutions.
Starting in 2015, Art Basel and BMW will support emerging artists by awarding the BMW Art Journey, enabling them to go on their own journey of creative discovery. Functioning as a mobile studio, the BMW Art Journey can take artists almost anywhere in the world – to develop new ideas, discover new themes, and envision new creative projects.
The BMW Art Journey is open to artists who are showing in Positions and Discoveries, Art Basel's sectors for emerging artists in Miami Beach and Hong Kong. Two international expert juries, one for Positions and one for Discoveries, will determine a shortlist of three artists per sector and invite them to submit proposals for a journey to a destination of their choice.

Within the fair, on Pier 94, a special exhibition organized by London-based curator Omar Kholeif, "Armory Focus: Middle East, North Africa and the Mediterranean (MENAM)" highlights works by emerging and established artists from those regions.
Could ArtPrize do what it did for Grand Rapids, Michigan in Dallas? That’s what the city is hoping — and that’s why they entered a three-year charter agreement to bring the art competition to the Lone Star State. The 2014 edition of ArtPrize in Grand Rapids covered every part of the city with art by both amateur and established artists, bringing in over 400,000 visitors to the city and creating a $22.2 million dollar economic impact.
“ArtPrize Dallas will create a lasting impact on the culture of Dallas by engaging and nurturing future artists and promoting a meaningful discussion of art and its role in society,” said Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings in a statement."
