Gemeentemuseum Den Haag has acquired two large sculptures by Louise Bourgeois, the grande dame of modern art, on long-term loan. Bourgeois’ work is held in great affection all over the world, among both art-lovers and the general public. The Louise Bourgeois Studio owns a number of the artist’s larger sculptures, and it loans them to only a handful of museums in the world. This now includes Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, alongside Tate Modern, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art and DIA Art Foundation.

After a year of world domination—having taken three of the top five spots in the most visited contemporary art shows of 2014—the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama is due to bring her popular polka dot art to northern Europe. The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, Denmark will host “the first Kusama retrospective in Scandinavia,” says Marie Laurberg, the curator of the show.

"Yayoi Kusama: Towards Infinity" (September 17-January 24, 2016) will display works that have “rarely or never been shown since [Kusama] first made them.”

The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, which is located on the outskirts of Copenhagen, Denmark, is hosting its first major solo exhibition of Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson. Eliasson, who is widely considered one of the most influential and pioneering artists of his generation, is best known for his sculptures and large-scale installations that employ natural materials.

“Riverbed,” a radical, site-specific installation, transforms the landscape of the museum as well as the visitors’ journey through the reimagined space.

On a recent visit to the Andy Warhol Foundation in New York, gallerist Daniel Blau was allowed a glimpse of rare, early drawings by Andy Warhol (1928-1987) that had remained out of public view for over 20 years. The 300 drawings, which were completed in the 1950s, will be published for the first time next week.

The drawings stand in sharp contrast to Warhol’s highly recognizable pop art works and reveal a lesser-known side of the artist as a talented draughtsman. The works will be published in a book edited by Blau and are currently being exhibited at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark (on view through February 21, 2013). After another exhibition in The Netherlands, the drawings will be put up for sale, surely a welcomed addition to the highly sought after Warhol works currently on the market.

Blau has a longstanding relationship with the Andy Warhol Foundation and organized his first show of the artist’s work in 1995. He has held a number of Warhol shows since then. From Silverpoint to Silver Screen, Warhol: The 1950s Drawings, which is being published by Hirmer, will be available on January 28, 2013.
