The Texas Department of Transportation has reached an agreement with the foundation Ballroom Marfa to preserve Elmgreen & Dragset’s iconic conceptual installation “Prada Marfa.” Ballroom Marfa, a non-profit organization that doubles as a contemporary cultural arts space, has been battling to preserve the sculpture for nearly a year. The government threatened to shut down the life-size replica of a Prada store, which stands on a deserted stretch of West Texas highway, because it could be considered an illegal roadside advertisement under state law.

To resolve the problem, Ballroom Marfa decided to lease the land underneath “Prada Marfa” and register the site as an art museum. Elmgreen & Dragset’s building will be the museum’s sole art exhibit.

A proposed mixed-use building in Ridgewood at 176 Woodward Ave. plans to dedicate 3,000 square feet for artists and community groups to rent space for $10 per year — under a buck a month.

Developer Slate Property Group added the feature after working with Councilman Antonio Reynoso to obtain his support for a zoning variance on the property, which is currently zoned for industrial use, according to Reynoso's office and Department of Buildings records.

Mead Carney, the contemporary art space and advisory firm founded by Nigel Mead in London in 2012, is the first commercial gallery to open in Porto Montenegro, which has been dubbed “the Monte Carlo of the Adriatic”. This month the gallery launched with the exhibition, “The Shock of the New” (until 30 September), which includes work by Damien Hirst, Gerhard Richter and Richard Prince.

The Adriatic Sea port, a tax-friendly destination and the home port of choice for many super-yacht owners, is in the Bay of Kotor, which is a Unesco World Heritage site.
