German painters Gerhard Richter and Georg Baselitz sold works for more than $2 million each, and American artist Mike Kelley’s mixed media that used buttons, beads and shells fetched more than $1 million, as the Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain ended on Sunday in Paris.

Organizers said 74,567 people attended the main fair at the Grand Palais and more than 14,000 visitors went to (Off)icialle, a new sister event with 68 galleries that focused on younger or overlooked artists on a dock along the Seine in east Paris.

At long last, Art Basel has full ownership of its Hong Kong edition, with parent company MCH Swiss Exhibition (Basel) Ltd. having finally acquired the remaining 40 percent of shares in Asian Art Fairs Limited in Hong Kong.

Art Basel's purchase of Asian Art Fairs was first announced on July 1, 2011. At that time, MCH Group picked up 60 percent of the company's shares, with the option of enacting a complete buyout in 2014.

This morning, Volta NY announced that it would move to Pier 90 for next year’s fair. Located directly beside the Armory Show’s home at Piers 92 and 94, the new site has just been renovated and offers 75,000 square feet of space for 90 exhibitors. Known as the Armory’s sister fair, Volta will run March 5 to March 8.

“Having celebrated our tenth anniversary in Basel by moving to a more mature and central venue, we felt that in New York it was also time to take the platform up a notch,” Volta artistic director Amanda Coulson said in a statement.

After seven years in New York, Pinta, the Modern & Contemporary Latin American Art Show, is relocating to Miami to set up shop during Art Basel from December 3 to 7.  The Related Group, a South Florida real estate development firm founded by Jorge Perez (of Perez Art Museum Miami fame), will present the fair.

It will be housed in a tent on the undeveloped future site of the Hyde Midtown Miami (a Related Group development project).

Art Basel in Miami Beach has just released details about Survey, its brand new section devoted to “art-historical projects” (read: art that was made a few decades ago). The thirteen projects cover quite a bit of ground, ranging from a group show of female geometric abstractionists to a solo presentation of Chilean political artist Lotty Rosenfeld.

Today, Frieze announced the 20 artists who will contribute work to its free sculpture park, on view for the run of both Frieze London and Frieze Masters from October 15 through 19. Curated by Yorkshire Sculpture Park’s Director of Programs, Clare Lilley, the Regent’s Park display includes work by Yayoi Kusama, Ursula von Rydingsvard, and Thomas Schütte, among others.

“Unique in the world’s art fairs, this year’s Frieze Sculpture Park is an intriguing and delightful breath of fresh air featuring artists from across three generations,” Clare Lilley said in a statement.

Art Moscow, Russia’s longest-running contemporary art fair, has been canceled this year because of international tensions and a virtually nonexistent local market, its founder and organizer, Vasily Bychkov, has announced in an interview with "The Art Newspaper Russia."

He had already warned in August that sanctions were prompting foreign participants to pull out of other exhibitions organized by his company, Expo-Park, according to "The Art Newspaper Russia."

On September 11, 2014, the 27th annual Biennale des Antiquaires will open to the public. The prestigious show, which is held at the Grand Palais in Paris, is celebrated for its elegant atmosphere, blue chip offerings, and elite guest list. A VIP preview was held on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, offering select patrons a sneak peek of the show’s treasure-trove of rare antiques, fine art, jewelry, silver, porcelain, and contemporary design.

This year’s Versailles-themed Biennale was designed by the celebrated French interior decorator Jacques Grange. A chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur, Grange recreated the royal gardens of Versailles under the Grand Palais’ iconic glass dome.

Art Silicon Valley/San Francisco (Art SV/SF), the second new art fair to pop up in the techie region, has announced the exhibitors for its inaugural fair from October 9 through 12 at the San Mateo County Event Center. Things have been heating up in the area over the past year with Silicon Valley Contemporary taking place this past April and Art Market San Francisco in May. Put on by the Art Miami people, Art SV/SF is the company’s seventh fair.

Marking the end of an era at the powerhouse art-fair organization Art Basel, Annette Schönholzer steps down this month to pursue other projects. As show manager of the first, now legendary, Art Basel Miami Beach in 2002, and later co-director with Marc Spiegler of all three Art Basel fairs worldwide, she oversaw the tremendous growth of the art-fair phenomenon and a far-reaching shake-up of power in the art world.

Her departure follows the surprising move in July by a key official of Art Basel, Magnus Renfrew, who served as director of its Hong Kong fair, to Bonhams auction house.  As Schönholzer had also been involved some months back in the establishment of Art Basel’s presence in China, the dual departures are seen complicating that newly minted expansion.
